Director Koreeda Hirokazu's first Korean film production, "Broker," was officially selected for the competition section of the 75th Cannes International Film Festival, with Lee Ji-eun, Song Kang-ho, Kang Dong-won, Bae Doo-na and Lee Ju-young delivering their thoughts.
"Broker" is directed by Hirokazu Koreeda, a world-renowned documentary director and winner of the 71st Palme d'Or, and is a work that has drawn attention for its colorful casting, depicting the journey of those who have become involved over the baby box.
It is the first time in three years that a Korean film has entered the competition since "Parasite" in 2019.
Lee Ji-eun is the first actor to step on the Cannes red carpet, not singer IU.Lee Ji-eun, who has been acting with "My Mister" and "Hotel Del Luna," is expected to continue her career that has advanced one notch with her first feature film challenge.
"I think it's a good thing that this work, which has been done beyond the cultural and language differences, has been rewarded not only by me but also by all the staff and actors who participated in it," Hirokazu Koreeda said. "I want to take it as a good opportunity to think about the meaning of making films and delivering them to the world in this chaotic time as well as in the Corona 19 Panda situation."
Lee Ji-eun said, "I was grateful that I could learn a lot throughout last spring when I filmed 'Broker,' and I remember all the experiences being mysterious, but I'm excited and looking forward to this spring as much as last spring because I'm going to attend the Cannes Film Festival."
Brokers are scheduled to be released in Korea sometime in June.
