The group BTS, firmly established as a global pop star, ambitiously knocked on the Grammy door again with its hit song "Butter," but the solid wall was not pierced.

Although he stopped at the threshold of the award after facing off against prominent candidates, the fact that he was nominated for "Dynamite" and "Butter" for two consecutive years left a meaningful mark.

Kim Do-heon, a pop music critic, said in a telephone interview with Yonhap News Agency on the 4th, "The mere fact that BTS was nominated for a Grammy for a kind of eventful single, not a regular album, means that BTS is impressive enough (in the music world of music)."

Critic Kim predicted, "If a better song comes out, we can be nominated for another Grammy and expect good results."

Many in and outside the music industry analyzed that the competition was fierce as BTS faced unprecedentedly prominent candidates.

The ceramic cat, which beat BTS to lift the trophy, has also been considered a strong candidate for the award.

Since his teenage years, the ceramic cat, which has posted his own music on the music platform "Sound Cloud," has been presenting emotional and sweet songs since his debut in 2014.

In particular, as "Kiss Me More" became popular around the world, he was nominated for a total of eight categories, including "Record of the Year" and "Song of the Year," at the awards ceremony.

Chung Min-jae, a pop music critic, said, "The Grammy Award is decided by a vote by a recording academy voting group composed of music officials, and competitors have been particularly prominent this year."

However, he stressed, "Considering that Grammy has not been favorable to boy groups, it is very meaningful just to be nominated," and "BTS has also been recognized by Grammy in that it has been recognized as a candidate for two consecutive years."

Some critics say that the Grammys "grammed again.

Since Grammy's nomination was announced in November last year, foreign media have pointed out that BTS has received harsh reviews for failing to make any of its mega hit "Butter" into the "General Fields" category, the four main awards.

It is true that the Grammy has been criticized for being conservative and exclusive compared to other pop music awards.

In particular, many non-white and female artists, not white men, are said to have a high wall and many of their members are stingy with "new choices," which has led to calls for essential changes in the Grammy recently.

Kim Young-dae, a pop music critic, said, "Grammys have been criticized for the need for change in recent years, and we have supplemented the voting population by considering diversity. However, the results inevitably suggest that 'Grammys have not changed yet' and 'There have not been enough changes to award BTS'," he said.

Jeong Deok-hyun, a pop culture critic, also explained, "Even if you look at the Academy Awards, so-called glass ceiling that values mainstream culture is being broken a lot, and there may be criticism that the Grammy is still local."

Chung said, "It is no exaggeration to say that all BTS activities have been with 'Ami' (BTS fans), but (the failure to win this award) could be expressed as a disappointment because it could be a test of the efforts of the ARMY."

Unlike other music awards shows that use chart performance or popular popularity as a yardstick, the Grammy is faithful to its musical essence, and some advise that BTS should take a step further musically with this result.

For example, the controversy over composer Sebastian Garcia's double use of the melodies sold to Dutch musician Luca Devonair for "butter" is a painful part for BTS.

"For the Grammy, it may mean that BTS music is not musically perfect enough to be nominated as the winner," said Lim Jin-mo, a pop music critic. "BTS should focus more on music and art.We still have a lot to do," he stressed.

"If songs such as 'Butter' and 'Dinermite' were universally popular, now is the time to find BTS's own color musically in addition to its popularity," said critic Jeong Deok-hyun. "If these efforts are carried out well, we can aim for the Grammy next year and later."
